Video formats and limits
- Formats: .mp4 or .mov encoded as H.264, or .webm encoded as VP8.
- Size: up to 300MB per video.
- Playback options: autoplay, loop and sound, each a toggle.
- Mobile: video isn't supported in the Figma mobile app. Test in a browser instead.
Video can also drive the prototype. Figma has When video hits and When video ends triggers, plus video actions you can attach to other layers, such as a play button.
Figma video not working?
Check the file first. Figma supports .mp4 and .mov in H.264 and .webm in VP8, up to 300MB, so re-export anything else. Then check your plan: on Starter the upload is blocked. If the video plays on desktop but not on your phone, you're probably in the Figma mobile app, which doesn't support video. Open the prototype link in the phone's browser. How to add a GIF in Figma
Place a GIF the same way, with ⇧⌘K or Ctrl+Shift+K. It stays static in the editor and only animates in presentation view, so press Shift+Space to check it. GIFs can be up to 4096 px on each side and are supported on all paid plans. Exporting a layer with a GIF fill gives you a static image, not an animation.

Can you add sound or audio to a Figma prototype?
Figma's help centre documents only two kinds of audio: the sound toggle on a video, and live voice chat. There's no documented way to add a standalone audio file.

How do I add a video to a Figma design?
Press ⇧⌘K on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+K on Windows and choose an .mp4, .mov or .webm file up to 300MB. You need an Education, Professional, Organization or Enterprise plan to upload video.
Why is my GIF not moving in Figma?
GIFs are static in the editor and only play in presentation view. Press Shift+Space or present the prototype to see it animate.
Can I add sound to a Figma prototype?
Only through a video's sound toggle, according to Figma's help centre. Standalone audio files aren't documented.
Why won't my video play on my phone?
Video in prototypes isn't supported in the Figma mobile app. Open the prototype link in your phone's browser instead.
