How to Download or Export Video From Figma

1. Select the video layer on the canvas or in the Layers panel.
2. Switch to Dev Mode with the toolbar toggle or ⇧D / Shift+D.
3. Find the Assets section in the Inspect panel on the right. Figma's Dev Mode guide says it lets you download GIF image and MP4 video nodes, and the full-resolution source file of an image.
4. Download the video. Users on the forum report it comes out in its original format.

Dev Mode needs a paid plan and a Full or Dev seat. If you don't have one, ask someone who does, or ask the file's owner for the original file. Figma Community Support confirmed on the forum that MP4 isn't an option in the regular Export section. How to open Dev Mode covers the seat rules.

Not natively. Figma's help center documents no way to record or export a prototype. The video export it does have only covers Figma Motion animations. You have two routes:

• Screen record the prototype. Present it, then use the Mac screenshot toolbar (⇧⌘5) or the Windows Snipping Tool's video mode. It's free and captures anything, including video layers playing inside the prototype. You'll trim the start and end, and your cursor movement is part of the shot. • Use a prototype export plugin. These play the flow for you and render a file, so the timing is exact and there's no cursor. Details below.

Plugins that export prototypes to MP4

• FlowShot exports prototype flows to MP4, GIF or WebM. It's free and open source.
• Protonix exports a prototype from its flow starting point to video, GIF or Lottie, using the Aninix animation engine.
• Export Prototype to GIF/Video targets app flows, landing pages and micro-interactions.
• Export to GIF/Video turns prototypes into marketing videos in one click.
• Aninix is a timeline animation tool rather than a prototype recorder, for when you want to build the motion properly and export MP4, GIF or Lottie.

Plugin features and free limits change often, so test a short flow before you commit to one.

If you animated a frame with Figma Motion (in open beta), Figma exports it for you. Select the top-level frame, go to the Export section, switch to the Animated tab and choose MP4, WebM, GIF or SVG. Set the size, the frame rate and, for MP4 and WebM, the quality. Click Export, and the file opens in a new tab where you click Download.

• No Animated tab? You've selected a nested layer. Select the frame that sits directly on the canvas.
• Capped at 1080p or 30 FPS? Exports above 1920 × 1080 or above 30 FPS need a paid plan. The feature itself works on any plan.
• It's a Smart Animate prototype, not Motion. The Animated tab only covers Motion. Use a plugin or a recording.
