Why Are My Fonts Not Showing in Figma?

Figma runs in a browser tab, and a browser tab can't read your system fonts on its own. The Figma font installer runs a small background process (FigmaAgent on Mac, figma_agent.exe on Windows) that hands your local fonts to Figma. If that process isn't running, or the browser blocks Figma from talking to it, your fonts disappear from the list. You may see the installer called the "Figma font helper" in older threads. That's the old name for the same thing.

The causes below are ordered from most to least common, based on the Figma forum threads with the most views ("Missing fonts when I have all the fonts installed" has about 15k).

1. The browser permission is blocked

Recent versions of Chrome ask before a site can reach apps on your device. Figma's help center calls the setting Local network access in Chrome 142 to 144 and Apps on device in Chrome 145 and later. If it stays blocked, you lose local fonts, some spell-check languages and the option to open links in the desktop app. Allow it from the address-bar site settings and refresh.

2. The font installer isn't running

If the permission is allowed but fonts still don't appear, force-quit FigmaAgent (Mac) or figma_agent.exe (Windows) and start it again by opening the desktop app or rerunning the installer. If you never installed it, download it from figma.com/downloads. The desktop app doesn't need it.

3. The font format or platform isn't supported

• Figma only reads .TTF and .OTF files. Other formats won't show up.
• ChromeOS and Linux can't use custom fonts at all. You get Google Fonts and Apple's SF fonts only.
• You installed the font while Figma was open. Reload browser files or restart the desktop app after installing.

4. Windows installed the font for one user only

A fix that comes up repeatedly on the Figma forum: on Windows, right-click the font file and choose Install for all users. Fonts installed only for your user account sometimes don't reach Figma.

5. A browser extension is getting in the way

Forum answers also suggest clearing the cache, reloading and turning off Chrome extensions one at a time. Test in a clean browser profile to rule this out quickly.

6. Adobe Fonts aren't syncing

Adobe Fonts not appearing in Figma is its own long-running forum thread. Figma's help center doesn't cover Adobe Fonts specifically, so treat them like any other local font: work through the permission and installer checks above, then reload.

When a file uses a font you don't have, Figma shows a missing-font icon in the left sidebar. This also happens when you have the font but a different version of it than the one used in the file, which forum threads name as a common cause of "missing fonts although installed".

1. Click the missing-font icon in the left sidebar to open the Missing fonts dialog.
2. For each missing font, pick a replacement family and style.
3. Click Replace fonts.

The dialog only covers fonts you can't access. Figma doesn't document a general "swap every font in the file" command, so for bulk font changes a plugin from the typography list below is the usual route.

On Organization and Enterprise plans, admins can upload fonts for everyone (Admin → Resources → Fonts for org admins, or the team menu → View team's fonts for team admins). If a teammate sees a font you don't, ask whether it was uploaded to the org or installed on their machine. Web fonts can't be uploaded.
