Figma grid shortcuts on Mac and Windows

Figma renamed layout grids to layout guides in May 2025, so older tutorials still say "layout grid". The feature is the same: columns, rows or a uniform grid drawn over a frame. It has nothing to do with the auto layout Grid flow, which arranges children in cells.
If you'd rather not remember a key, open the Zoom/view options menu and tick Layout guides or Pixel grid there. The same menu holds Snap to pixel grid, Pixel preview and Multiplayer cursors.
Why the grid shortcut does nothing
- The frame has no layout guide yet. The shortcut only toggles visibility. Add one first: select a frame and click + next to Layout guide. How to add layout guides has the full setup.
- The frame's own eye toggle is off. Each frame's layout guide has its own visibility toggle, separate from the global one.
- The layer isn't a frame. Groups and sections can't have layout guides. Components count as frames.
- The frame is rotated. Layout guides show only on frames at 0°.
- Your keyboard isn't US QWERTY. Figma's defaults assume US QWERTY. Set your real layout in the shortcuts panel's Layout tab. See Figma shortcuts not working.
Why the pixel grid isn't showing
The pixel grid only draws at 400% zoom or higher. Below that the toggle is on but you won't see anything. Zoom in with ⌘+ / Ctrl + +, or select a small layer and press ⇧2 to zoom to it. Figma zoom shortcuts lists the rest.
Snap to pixel grid is a different setting. It works even when the pixel grid is hidden, and frames, sections and components snap to whole pixels whether it's on or not. If layers keep jumping, Figma snapping explains the workaround.

What is the shortcut to hide the layout grid in Figma?
Figma's help pages list both Shift+G and Control+G on Mac (Ctrl+Shift+4 on Windows). Layout grids are now called layout guides. If one key doesn't work, try the other or tick Layout guides in the zoom menu.
Why is the pixel grid not showing in Figma?
The pixel grid only appears at 400% zoom or higher. Toggle it with ⌘' on Mac or Ctrl+' on Windows, then zoom in.
How do I turn off snap to pixel grid in Figma?
Press ⌘⇧' on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+' on Windows, or untick it in the zoom menu or Preferences. Frames, sections and components still snap to whole pixels with it off.
Is a layout guide the same as the auto layout grid?
No. Layout guides are visual columns, rows or grids drawn over a frame. The auto layout Grid flow places a frame's children into rows and columns.
