Which Figma export works best in Photoshop?
- PNG, for a flat image. Pick the frame, add a PNG export at 2x or more and open it in Photoshop. Simple and exact, but it's one pixel layer.
- PDF, for a sharp single layer. In Photoshop, File > Place Embedded puts the PDF in as a Smart Object. You choose the page when you place it, and you can scale it up without it going soft. You can't edit the Figma layers inside it.
- SVG, for single icons or shapes. Photoshop rasterises an SVG when you open it. Place it as a Smart Object instead if you want it to stay scalable.

How to get a layered PSD from Figma
Plugins read your Figma layers and write them out as Photoshop layers. None of them is perfect. Text, fonts and effects are where results differ most, so test one frame before converting a whole file.
- Convertify (about 519,000 users): exports to Photoshop, InDesign, Sketch, XD and After Effects, and imports PSD back. It's a paid plugin with a limited free tier and 10 free Pro trials.
- PSD Export (about 26,000 users): exports frames to layered PSD files with text, fonts and blend modes, aimed at people animating in After Effects or editing in Premiere.

A no-upload workaround with Illustrator
If you can't send client work through an online service, the forum's offline route works with Adobe apps alone. Export the frame as a PDF, open it in Illustrator, ungroup and release the clipping masks, and save it as an AI file. Place that in Photoshop. You'll get vector shapes you can edit, but text may arrive as outlines, so copy the text from Figma and retype it where it needs to stay live.
Can you import a PSD into Figma?
Not natively. Figma's import list covers Figma files, Sketch files, PowerPoint, and images, but not PSD. For a quick reference, save the PSD as PNG and drag it in. For editable layers, use a plugin:
