Set the file to sRGB
Click the arrow next to the file name and check File color profile. New files are sRGB by default, which sits closer to what CMYK can print than Display P3.
Size the frame for the paper
Figma works in pixels, so convert the page size at 72 px per inch. A4 is about 595 × 842 px, and a 3 mm bleed adds about 8.5 px per side.
Check image resolution
Each photo needs about 300 pixels per printed inch. A plugin DPI check shows the effective resolution of placed images before you export.
Run a CMYK export plugin
Select the frames, open a print plugin such as Print for Figma, Printery or i Print CMYK PDF, and add bleed and crop marks if the printer wants them.
Choose the printer's ICC profile
Pick the CMYK profile your print shop specifies, such as FOGRA39 or GRACoL 2013, then export the PDF.
Proof the PDF
Open the file in Acrobat or another PDF viewer and check colours, bleed and page order before sending it to print.
Is there a CMYK mode in Figma?
No. Figma's colour picker offers Hex, RGB, CSS, HSL and HSB, and a design file can be set to sRGB or Display P3 from the menu next to the file name, under File color profile. FigJam boards always render in sRGB. Figma's help articles on colour profiles and export formats don't mention CMYK, and Export to CMYK sits in the forum's feature requests rather than in any release notes.
That means you can't type CMYK values into a fill. If your brand guide gives CMYK numbers, use the RGB or Hex values the guide lists for screen, then map them back to the exact CMYK values at export with a plugin that supports custom colour mapping (Print for Figma and Printery both do).
Figma CMYK plugins compared
- Print for Figma (about 268,000 users): CMYK, grayscale or RGB PDF export with ICC profiles (GRACoL 2013, SWOP, FOGRA51, FOGRA52, FOGRA59), custom RGB to CMYK colour maps, bleed, crop marks, a DPI check and multi-page PDFs. Paid at $12 a month, with a free tier.
- Printery (about 58,000 users): CMYK PDF export with ICC profiles such as FOGRA39 and PSO Coated v3, spot colour mapping, overprint control, bleed, crop marks and facing-page spreads. The free plan gives 3 lifetime PDF exports; Pro removes the limits.
- i Print CMYK PDF (about 23,000 users): free. Previews your frames in CMYK next to the RGB original, runs preflight checks for out-of-gamut colour, low-resolution images and thin strokes, and exports a four-channel CMYK PDF with bleed and trim boxes set.
- CMYK It! (about 4,000 users): free, but it isn't an exporter. It splits an image into four layers, one per C, M, Y and K channel, set to Multiply so they stack back into the original. Use it for halftone, riso or separation-style artwork, not for a print-ready file.
Can you export CMYK from Figma for free?
Yes, with limits. i Print CMYK PDF is free and exports multi-page CMYK PDFs. Printery's free plan covers three exports in total, which is enough for a one-off flyer. Print for Figma has a free tier, but the full CMYK workflow is on the paid plan. The other free route is Figma's own RGB PDF plus a conversion in software you already have, covered next.
Export an RGB PDF and convert it in InDesign or Illustrator
If you have Adobe apps, you don't need a plugin. Select the frame, add a PDF row in the Export section of the right sidebar and export it (PDF is 1x only and exports at Medium quality by default). In the export settings, untick Outline text if you want the text to stay editable in the next app. Figma turns it on by default when a text layer is selected.
- Illustrator: open the PDF, choose File > Document Color Mode > CMYK Color, check the colours and save a new PDF.
- InDesign: place the PDF with File > Place, then export with File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print). On the Output tab, set Color Conversion to Convert to Destination and pick your printer's profile.
- Acrobat Pro: the Print Production tools can convert colours in an existing PDF, which suits a final file you don't want to rebuild.

How to set up a Figma file for print
Figma has no mm or inch setting. Work at 72 px per inch, which is how a 1x PDF maps to paper: A4 becomes 595 × 842 px and US Letter 612 × 792 px. Figma units in mm and inches has the conversions for other sizes and bleed. Add a layout grid for margins and the safe area; if it doesn't appear, see layout grid not showing.
Watch image size on large formats. Figma scales any image over 4096 px down to 4096 px on the longest side, and 300 DPI needs about 3,508 px for the long side of A4 but about 7,016 px for A2. Why colours shift when a Figma design goes to CMYK
Screens mix light, and CMYK mixes ink, so the printable range is smaller. Saturated blues, greens, oranges and anything neon fall outside it and come back duller. Display P3 files show even more colours that ink can't reach, so keep print files in sRGB. Preview the shift before you commit: i Print CMYK PDF shows a CMYK preview next to the original, and Print for Figma and Printery let you set exact CMYK values for brand colours so the conversion doesn't pick its own.
Print copy often carries footnote markers and ® or ™ symbols. Superscript in Figma shows how to set them.
Frequently asked questions
Can Figma export CMYK?
Not natively. Figma's export colour profiles are Same as file, sRGB and Display P3. Use a plugin such as Print for Figma, Printery or i Print CMYK PDF, or convert the RGB PDF in InDesign, Illustrator or Acrobat.
Can I enter CMYK values in Figma's colour picker?
No. The colour picker offers Hex, RGB, CSS, HSL and HSB. Use the RGB or Hex values from your brand guide, and set exact CMYK values at export with a plugin that supports colour mapping.
Is Figma good for print design?
For flyers, posters, cards and simple brochures, yes, as long as you size frames at 72 px per inch, check image resolution and export through a CMYK plugin. For long documents or large-format print, finishing in InDesign or Illustrator is safer.
Does the CMYK It! plugin export CMYK files?
No. It splits an image into four CMYK channel layers inside Figma for separation-style artwork. For a print-ready CMYK PDF, use an export plugin.
Should my Figma file be sRGB or Display P3 for print?
sRGB. It's the default for new files and holds fewer colours that ink can't reproduce, so the CMYK conversion shifts less.
